I work one on one with my clients, often meeting them in their homes or my own, to develop strategies specific to their financial goals. Financial plans are always custom, never generic or off-the-shelf plans created by standardized software. Furthermore, while some firms push higher margin, proprietary products, or funds that their corporate office makes more money selling, I never sell products, nor am I incentivized to do so. I implement investments for their utility inside of the overall portfolio. To that end, I also utilize roughly 30% alternatives in order to optimize the risk/reward profile of my clients’ portfolios while many firms will not allow more than 10% because the home office does not want to bare the risk, even if it is in the best interest of the client.
I have three main focuses: 1) Keep the total cost of investing low. 2) Invest roughly 30% in alternative assets and strategies in order to optimize the risk/reward profile of your portfolio. 3) Proprietary methodologies designed to minimize the impact of major market corrections. All of these are implemented in order to increase the likelihood of achieving your investment objectives while minimizing the stress of market fluctuations and reducing the chances of making emotional decisions that can impede your progress.
I utilize Charles Schwab as a custodian which means you have the support and oversight of a large corporation, registered and regulated by the SEC and I never personally touch your money, only effect trades in your accounts. Meanwhile you still benefit from the personal dedication of an independently owned Registered Investment Advisor, regulated by the State of Washington. I also carry $1,000,000.00 in errors and omissions insurance and $500,000.00 in cyber liability.
No, I do not currently have any minimums. However, in order to fully diversify your portfolio, I do need an initial deposit of at least a few thousand. I will also employ individual stock selection for clients whom I manage at least $300,000.00 and fully customized portfolios for clients for whom I managed at least $1,500,000.00.
After our initial meeting, if you decide to proceed, I will send you electronic forms for your review, completion, and records including a client agreement, two questionnaires, my ADV and menu of services. All of these can be completed electronically and, with the exception of one of the questionnaires, are short to complete. Once I have that documentation, I will reach out for a short discussion to confirm your risk profile and answer any questions. If I am going to be managing assets for you, I can complete most of the paperwork to set up your new account, and transfer the assets to Schwab. You will just need to complete a few items I leave blank in the paperwork like your SSN and signature. I handle the asset management from there. Financial plans do require additional legwork on your part. I will also set up a secure ShareFile folder for you to retain all of your documentation.
Once you decide you would like to hire me for investment management or financial planning services, we can get you set up in as little as a few hours. It’s just a matter of when you can get to the electronic paperwork I send to you. One of my questionnaires is the longest of the group, but much of the rest of the process just requires electronic signatures and date. Most of the time, everything is completed electronically. The transfer process can take a few days for funds to be fully available for trading.
All of the investments I utilize can be fully liquidated and available to move within two days (T+1 or trading day plus 1 day). We can also set up MoneyLink (Schwab’s version of ACH) so that you can transfer funds into, or out of your account, to a checking account (although this happens instantaneously, it can take overnight for the funds to be accessible depending on your institution).
I meet clients at their homes, my home office, a neutral location of their choosing, via Zoom, or phone.
My annual fee for asset management services ranges from 0.33%-1.35% depending on assets under management. For financial planning services I charge $200.00 per hour, but this fee is discounted for clients for whom I manage assets to the point that there may be no additional fees for these services. Schwab does charge $25.00 for trading mutual funds and has some miscellaneous fees for certain services, which rarely apply. Aside from that, mutual funds and exchange traded funds have internal expenses that they charge that comes out of their net performance. You can find more information about my fees on my services page, my ADV, or menu of services.
